Benefits of Loving Yourself

Benefits of Loving Yourself Completely & Fully

Who doesn’t have issues with this topic? Have you thought about it? Do you love yourself completely and fully? It’s a huge question. And one most of us ask ourselves at one point in our lives. First, let’s look at what it means to love yourself completely and fully.

Google defines self-love as “regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.” But it’s about more than that. It’s about acceptance: accepting yourself as you are, including imperfections, flaws, and all other. At the same time, this self-love should give you the motivation to improve in everything that you do in life.

The benefits to your mental, physical and spiritual well-being are great! According to lifehack.org, you will gain “superpowers” as you learn to love yourself! Amazing things will happen. Mentally, you should expect to connect with yourself on a higher level of consciousness.

Mental Benefits

Did you think there could possibly be so many mental benefits to loving yourself? Let’s look at the biggest benefits first:

Clarity and Improved Focus

Mental focus, concentration, and determination all mean the same thing: the ability to totally put your mind to the task you want to accomplish.

 Increased Happiness

What defines our happiness will differ for each of us but psychologists have suggested that happiness consists of three distinct elements: the pleasant life, the good life, and the meaningful life (Seligman, 2002; Seligman, Steen, Park, & Peterson, 2005).

 Reduced Procrastination

Procrastination is a noun defined as: the action of delaying or postponing something. I think most of us have had issues with this at some point in our lives. While we spend valuable time putting off things we’d rather not do, they usually don’t turn out as we planned them to, simply because we didn’t take the initiative. When you love yourself you also love life. They go hand in hand. So why would you want to put things off?

 Spiritual Awakening

“Spiritual awakening, then, is an awakening of a dimension of reality beyond the confines of the ego. … This awakening occurs when, for whatever reason, the ego somehow let’s go so that a Higher Self or Spirit can arise within.”

What? Read it again. Wow. That’s deep. My own explanation of what this means, and what it means to me personally, will be very different than yours. But I love this guy, Scott Jeffrey. Read more and learn more, both about life and about yourself.

Mantras of Benefits of Loving Yourself

You may want to begin meditating or repeating affirmations daily. Remember that reinforcement in any manner is powerful for making change, especially within yourself. It follows that incorporating daily success mantras will help you… well, succeed. The brain reacts to consistent stimuli and by using a set of success mantras you will train your brain over time.

Affirmations are sayings or phrases that you repeat to yourself so that they become a part of you. You can say them during meditation or throughout your day but it’s best to say them out loud.

You will use more of your senses. If you repeat them inside your head, your ears won’t hear them, and your mouth won’t speak them. By engaging more of your senses, your brain will capture and process them more quickly.

This type of positive self-reinforcement works. People often try them for a couple of days or weeks and then pass them off as not working. It takes about 30 days for them to start sinking in.

Once they begin working, continue with them daily for even better results. You can also start incorporating additional affirmations into your routine.

Some people like to use the same set of mantras each day while others will use one success mantra and change it every day for the 30 days. You may also find a different set that works better for you. How you decide to do it is not as important as being consistent. That is the key to making this work.

You will find people who don’t believe in this and will think you are crazy for trying it. This could be members of your family, friends, coworkers, or even members of online communities.

Don’t let them divert you from your true path. Using mantras is something that can help your life. You will have the last laugh. One thing you can say to the naysayers is, “How can simply saying positive things to myself be a bad thing?” Even if they don’t work for you, they certainly won’t harm anybody else by using them.

You will find a plethora of resources online if you are stuck trying to come up with mantras to use. Do a google search on success mantras and use whichever ones you feel apply to you the most.

Physical Benefits

Our mental state and bad habits can take a toll on our physical health. The physical benefits of self-love include:

  • Better sleep
  • Better overall health
  • Reduced stress
  • Increased stamina

You may want to stop smoking, eat healthier or begin an exercise regimen once you’ve begun loving yourself completely and fully.

How to Begin

Some of these may seem obvious but sometimes we need to hear it them as a reminder to ourselves.

  • Live intentionally
  • Eat right and exercise (get your body moving!)
  • Forgive yourself
  • Be kind to everyone

It all boils down to common sense. Use some! Don’t beat yourself up over the past, and please do not live in it. Live in the moment. To love yourself completely and fully, you can use several methods. If mantras and exercise don’t work for you, you may want to consider hiring a coach who is experienced in sharing this self-love.
